| He was on call 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week. His strong work ethic,
commitment to superior service and loyalty
to his clientele was born, and remains a lifelong
trademark. Dr. Berta's expertise in large animal
medicine brought innovations to Coweta County.
He was the first to introduce the use of equine
ultrasound, a technique used for reproductive
examinations and early pregnancy diagnosis,
and the first practitioner to utilize the portable
X-ray machine in the field. Dr. Berta also
lectured at the Georgia Veterinary Medical
Association Convention and at various local
4-H clubs, civic groups, and pony clubs. As
his large-animal practice grew, so did his
family. In 1982, a second son, Nick, was born,
and the practice could no longer operate out
of the house.
